Nassau, Bahamas - Sidney Collie, Chairman of the Free National Movement (FNM), issued the following statement titled, Prime Minister Christie’s Decisions having brought The Bahamas to the Brink of disaster:

“The Free National Movement continues to ratify a talented field of candidates that understands the plight of the Bahamian people and who have the work ethic, character and plan of action to help improve the condition of our people. In recent months the governing Progressive Liberal Party has sought to denigrate and misrepresent a number of FNM candidates notwithstanding the uninspiring veteran slate of politicians they have selected as their standard bearers. The FNM is confident that the practical innovative plans that we rolled out along with our dynamic team will usher in a new dispensation in Bahamian politics. The status quo will be dramatically altered by an FNM Government."

“The PLP most recent attack on our leader Doctor Hubert Minnis and our candidate for Marco City, Michael Pintard, is riddled with lies and is a feeble attempt to change the subject from the government’s failure to account for the One Billion dollars in VAT revenue collected and their inability to explain where the 32,000 jobs are that they claim to have created since 2012. The PLP has not managed our economy well nor have they overseen the affairs of our nation well. The Bahamas has and continues to suffer under Mr. Christie’s leadership and the weight of his fat-cat Cabinet Ministers and cronies who grow wealthier while ordinary Bahamians struggle to find jobs, pay bills, school their children and feed their families."

“We are confident that much like our other gifted candidates Michael Pintard will not only succeed in winning Marco City he would lead the way in restoring the economy in Grand Bahama and The Bahamas. The reality is that Perry Christie shouldn’t be worried about our change team and should instead be answering to the Bahamian people on the state of our country that he has led into the ground on every measure."

“Dr. Minnis has made the point repeatedly that the PLP specializes in spinning the truth and deflecting the facts so as not to admit that they have failed to govern effectively and honestly. However, the PLP is unable to distract the Bahamian people from the fact that their Mortgage Relief program failed; that the economy underperformed on their watch; that we were downgraded to junk status under Christie’s guidance; that serious crimes hit a record high under Christie’s management; and that the judiciary was threatened and verbally attacked by the Christie Administration. It is not Dr. Minnis’ judgment that should be questioned! Instead, it is the many, many horrible decisions by Perry Christie and the PLP-led Government that have brought The Bahamas to the brink of disaster.”
