Hundreds of our elderly will experience a lonely Christmas this year. No one to talk with, or share their experiences or stories with. Many of them are sad at the thought, that they would not be surrounded by relatives and loved ones to share those jolly moments with during the holidays. Others might not be privileged to eat a delicious hot Christmas meal and enjoy opening presents wrapped and placed under the Christmas tree especially for them. This might be so for many of our senior citizens this Christmas, but not the residents at the Persis Rodgers Home for the Aged.

The DNA Women’s Alliance, feels that seniors at the Persis Rodgers and elsewhere deserve the pleasure of celebrating Christmas, so much that they will celebrate it a few days early. On Saturday December 20, 2014, the residents and staff at Persis Rodgers will be treated to a special Luncheon and a Christmas program with carols performed by special guest Emily Williams formerly known as “Sweet Emily”.

The visit to the home will be in partnership with Hope for the Holidays which will be providing the hot lunches. Gifts and care packages will be presented to all of the residents, and are being provided by the DNA Women’s Alliance as tokens of love and Christmas good cheer.

The residents at the Persis Rodgers Home for the Aged, told our Assistant Chaplin, during her visit last week to speak with the Administrators and residents in preparation for the visit that they are looking forward to spending the day with friends from the DNA Women’s Alliance. They are anxiously anticipating the visit and many of them are making plans to perform in the Christmas program. One senior wants to share her childhood story while another wants to sing her favorite song. A gentleman says he wants to dance, but is seeking a dance partner, states Prodesta Moore, President of the Women’s Alliance.

The DNA Women’s Alliance is hoping to make many of their Christmas wishes come true. DNA Party Leader Branville McCartney and his wife Lisa along with the President of the Women’s Alliance, Prodesta Moore welcome others to join in the celebration in the spirit of giving back to our senior citizens. If you are interested in bringing a Christmas Gift as a symbol of love, please drop it off to the home on Saturday at 1 pm and join in the celebration. Let’s make this Christmas one they will always remember.
