DNA's Introduces more candidates‏

The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) continues to pave the way toward the most historic elections of our generation. The Party was the first to ratify and begin announcing its candidates, who represent the framework of Bahamian society, including certified accountants, former athletes, taxi drivers, musicians, unionists, entrepreneurs, college professors, architects, an entertainment mogul, an Oxford graduate, a Howard University graduate, a food vendor, attorneys, CEOs and general managers of major Bahamian companies.


This shows a commitment by DNA leader, Branville McCartney to the Bahamian people to run a full slate of qualified candidates in the 2012 General Elections.

Last night, five candidates were introduced at the Party’s Street Meeting in the heart of Kemp Road. Those candidates include: Dr. Madeline Sawyer (DNA – Southern Shores), Delano Munroe (DNA – M.I.C.A.L.), Rozanna Prodesta Moore (DNA – Killarney), George Taylor Jr. (DNA – North Eleuthera) and Mark Humes (DNA – Fort Charlotte).

The final candidates of the 38-candidate slate are Marco City, Central Grand Bahama and East Grand Bahama. These candidates will be announced this weekend in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Mark Humes

DNA – Fort Charlotte

Chairman of the Democratic National Alliance and an Assistant Professor in the School of English Studies at the College of the Bahamas, Mark Humes is the son of Marsha Young (nee Humes) and Alfred St. George Clare Jr. As a young boy, Mark grow up in the Ft. Charlotte community with his grandparents, noted writer and social commentator Audley Humes and his wife Lillian, who still lives in their family home in Chippingham.

A 1982 graduate of St. Augustine’s College, he spent 10 years as a Customs Officer before leaving to further his studies at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia where he obtained Bachelor of Arts degrees in French and English. Mark later attended the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, receiving a Master of Arts degree in African American Literature and Theory from the institution. Before joining the faculty at the College of the Bahamas in 2006, he lectured in the Department of English at the University of Puerto Rico and, later returning home, worked as a journalist at The Tribune, penning articles such as “Bahamian Politics, Crime, and Punishment Pts. I and II,” “Education in Crisis,” “An Obligation to Education” and “How Social Class Affects the Quality of Our Children’s Education.”

A certified USATF track and field coach, Humes served as the head men and women track and field coach at the Marist School in Atlanta, Georgia and as the Assistant men’s sprint coach at Morehouse College and the University of Puerto Rico. He has coached noted Bahamian athletes Derrick Atkins, Aaron Cleare, and Adrian Gibson to national and international success and, along with Pauline Davis-Thompson, established the track club, the Bahamas High-performance Academy.

An avid photographer, Humes has been featured in Jet Magazine and on the Oprah Winfrey Show. He has one son, Denrodo and three grandsons, Makai, Denrodo Jr., and Denajh.

George Taylor Jr.

DNA – North Eleuthera

George Dudley Taylor Jr. was born to Cynthia and George Taylor Sr. (deceased) on January 15, 1963 and is the youngest of four sons. A 1981 graduate of Government High School, he was a focused student, who was determined to continue his tertiary education.

Upon graduating from high school, Taylor enrolled at the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF).

Besides gaining discipline and experience, the RBDF allowed him to enroll in the College of the Bahamas where he obtained his three phase Electrical and Plumbing License in 1989.

To further his education Taylor enrolled at Warren National University, Cheyenne, Wyoming where he successfully completed his Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering in July 2009.

As a certified scuba diver, Taylor worked at the Royal Bahamas Defence Force for 10 years before opening his own electrical store in 1992.

Taylor’s Electrical & Mechanical Co. Ltd offers a complete service in Electrical & Mechanical Engineering as well as general Construction. He is equipped with more than 15 years in business and professional experience across a diverse range of industries and companies.

Taylor is a former secretary and a member of the Bahamas Electrical Contractor Association (BECA). He is a member of Bahamas Contractor Association (BCA). He served as a director of Rotary Club of West Nassau. He is a member of Toastmasters International Club 1600 for the past 15 years. He also served as a Division Governor of Toastmasters International, Bahamas Division I from 2007- 2008.

Recently completed SCTW course in Elementary first Aid, personal Survival Techniques, fire Prevention and Fire Fighter, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility; Taylor had been committed to giving his best to all his endeavors and regards challenges as an opportunity to exceed expectation.

Taylor has offered himself as a candidate to change the North Eleuthera community.

He believe that Gregory Town and Hatchet Bay could once again lead the way with its pineapple industry, cattle and live stock farming, through the DNA proposed joint venture policy design to produce top quality products.

He further believes that Harbour Island’s tourism would flourish with reduce electrical bills not withstanding the constant disruption of electrical supply. The same is true for the other northern communities, which are fed up of the same power supply system.

Among his many interest, Taylor enjoys traveling, fishing, swimming, bowling, playing backgammon, meeting & helping people. Taylor is the proud father of four: George III, Georgette, Gino and Gilchris Taylor.

Prodesta Moore

DNA – Killarney

R. Prodesta Moore is a native of New Providence, a dedicated wife and mother, who is passionate about addressing the social ills and the economic deficiencies that plague many households and communities.

This mother of four, LaShanda, Drameko, Leslie Jr. and Camyka and two grand children, Tayina and Elrey, is married to Leslie L Moore (the oldest son of former M.P. for High Rock, Maurice Moore).

Prodesta graduated from C.C. Sweeting Senior High School, where she earned her high school diploma. She attended Florida Metropolitan University in Fort Lauderdale, where she earned her Associates Degree in Paralegal and later attended Florida International University to begin her Bachelors’ Degree in Business, which she is currently completing at the University of West Indies open campus.

She aspires not only to be the voice of the people in Killarney, but also the hands and the legs that will work endlessly to improve the quality of life for all Bahamians.

In addition, Prodesta has completed numerous training in social work, leadership development, grant writing, capacity building, youth development, pregnancy prevention, life skills and HIV/AIDS awareness education, focusing on at risk populations.

Prodesta has volunteered with several youth service organizations, where she gained most of her experience in youth and social development. She is now the President and CEO of a nonprofit organization Urban Youth Development Centre, which provides youth development and empowerment training for school aged youth, and extends their services to young adult ages 18 to 35, focusing on women’s sexual reproductive health.

Prodesta does not believe in standing on the sidelines and pointing fingers at others for failure.

Prodesta is the best choice to represent the people of Killarney, because of her ability to interact with people on all levels and, more importantly, because of her commitment to serve. Prodesta Moore is ready, able and fit to serve under the DNA government from day one.

Delano Munroe

DNA – M.I.C.A.L.

It has been said before that the heart of politics is not political theory. Instead, it is people—young and old—and how they choose to live their lives.

It is against this premise that Delano Munroe has chosen to assume a spot in frontline politics. It’s a venture that takes him from being merely an observer to an active participant in the shaping of a new political process that seeks to transform The Bahamas—a new Bahamas.

A recent graduate from the University of London External Program with his LLB, Delano truly believes in that change will ensure the betterment of all people, particularly the youth.

Born on November 24th, 1977 to Paula and Randolph Munroe, Delano comes from humble beginnings. From an early age, Delano along with his six siblings learned firsthand the values of hard-work andpersistence.

Delano attained his early childhood education at the Carmichael and Carlton Francis Primary Schools graduating in 1989 as a distinguished student.

The year 1995 marked the completion of his secondary education at the S.C. McPherson Secondary School, where he also served as Head Boy.

It’s a position that he insists has taught him the importance of leadership. Through this position, his passion for a career in youth development was realized and he developed a strong belief that the youth of The Bahamas are the wealth of the country, his commitment and dedication to the empowerment of young Bahamians isunquestionable.

In September 2000, Delano was invited by the Government of The Bahamas to join the team at the Ministry of Youth as a Youth Officer assigned to the Youth Enterprise Department.

Delano served as the longest serving Program Manager for Junior Achievement Bahamas;a position he has held for more thanten years.

As Program Manager, Delano's ultimate goal is to ensure the success and empowerment of each young person enrolled in the program. Under his stewardship, several innovative initiatives were implemented to ensure thatdeserving participants receive scholastic opportunities at some of the most prestigious colleges and universities throughout the United States. He can be credited as the founder of the Business and Industry trip for high school seniors.

A Junkanoo enthusiast, Delanohas also served as a National Junkanoo Judge, Judges Supervisor and member of the Parade Management team. Delano’s public service extends further as he has served as one of the initial committee members of the National Youth Service Programme and has assisted with the National Mentorship Programme. He was later appointeda member of the National Youth Advisory Board for the country.

In addition to his involvement with Junior Achievement, Delano is also served as an honorable member of Her Majesty's Juvenile Panel for the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, a member of the Education Advisory Board for Johnson and Wales University, and a consultant for the Office of Admissions at St. Leo University.

An avid churchgoer, he attends St. Gregory's Anglican Church and served on the Anglican Diocesan Youth Advisory Council.

Delano truly practices what he preaches, as an entrepreneur and philanthropist. Many young people can certify that they have benefited financially from his kind-hearted and giving personality for sports and band trips, youth conferences and other noteworthy initiatives.

Dr. Madeline Sawyer

DNA – Southern Shores

A certified lawyer, physician and surgeon, Dr. Madeline Sawyer was born in New Providence to parents Doris Sawyer of Governor’s Harbour and John Nelson Sawyer from Savannah Sound, Eleuthera.

She received her preliminary education at Government High School. She continued her tertiary education at the University of Scotland, where she received her Doctorate. In 2008, she received a law degree from the University of Auddersfield.

Sawyer is the founder of the I Am Smart Foundation, which is committed to the elimination of risky sexual behavior and heightened awareness of STD’s and STI’s. The I Am Smart Foundation aims to eliminate teenage pregnancy by 2020 in The Bahamas.

Sawyer is also the co-founder of the Zonta Club of Nassau and the Zonta Club of New Providence.
