Nassau, Bahamas - Dr. Minnis, Leader of the Free National Movement (FNM), issued the following statement in response to Prime Minister Christie’s comments on President-elect Trump’s victory:

“After nearly five long years in power, with his political support vanishing and his back against the wall as his government staggers from one scandal after another, Prime Minister Christie has finally come to realize that his Government must learn to be more transparent and accountable. It was not the growing scandal of the land and fisheries giveaway to the Chinese, nor the back lash from his secret deals with his Chinese allies on Baha Mar, or the fact that the FNM has long called for transparency and accountability reforms that caused this revelation. No, this enlightened revelation came to the embattled Prime Minister as he observed the United States Presidential Election. To have such a divine epiphany after nearly five years in power as his incompetent and failed leadership has caught up with him is a tremendous revelation indeed. But let’s make this clear – the PLP had their chance to lead, they failed but the FNM will not fail.”

“On behalf of the Bahamian people we simply ask Prime Minister Christie to prove his true intentions. If he has truly embraced the FNM reform agenda of transparency and accountability, he can immediately release all the details and documents related to his secret deals he has made with his Chinese allies. That includes having the Courts to unseal his Secret Baha Mar deal. The people demand it.”

“This would be a remarkable turn even for the politically nimble embattled Prime Minister because he has remained defiantly silent on the secret Baha Mar deal and all his deals with his Chinese allies. His silence has been deafening and the Bahamian people simply want to know the truth. So, we will all soon learn if this is another stunt from a desperate, embattled politician or a true late in his term conversion.”
