As we in the Free National Movement celebrate twenty four years since our first election to govern The Bahamas, The Hon. Neko Grant 1, celebrates twenty four years of service to the people of The Bahamas as a Member of Parliament.

We note with deep appreciation and much respect for his long years of exemplary faithful service to The Bahamas and especially Grand Bahama and his constituents that the Hon. Neko Grant 1, has today announced his decision to retire from active politics at the expiry of his present term in office and not offer for reelection.

Mr. Grant was first elected to serve the people of Lucaya in 1992 and later the Central Grand Bahama Constituency for five successive five year terms as the Free National Movement’s standard bearer. He was honoured by the Kiwanis Club of Lucaya as the club’s first Diamond Distinguished President and in 1997 inducted into the International Softball Hall of Fame.   Mr. Grant served as Chairman of the Grand Bahama Housing Commission from 1992 to 1997 and Chairman of The Bahamas Mortgage Corporation from January 2000 to May 2002.  He has had the distinction of serving in the Cabinet of The Bahamas as Minister of Tourism and Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing, with additional responsibility for Grand Bahama in the last FNM Government.

Mr. Grant has served with distinction and we celebrate his long and unwavering commitment to the principles of the Free National Movement and his dedication to his constituents, all of Grand Bahama and to the Bahamian people as he serves out the remainder of his term in office.

We wish Mr. Grant and his family God Speed in their future endeavors.
