Nassau, Bahamas - Dr. Hubert Minnis, Free National Movement (FNM) Leader, issued the following statement thanking all who stood in line and voted at Wednesday’s advance poll:

“As we draw closer to this general election, passions and emotions intensify. However, given this inept government’s lack of organization and irresponsibility in maintaining a fair, organized poll, it is easy for voters to become apathetic.”

“This was not the case on Wednesday however, as thousands voted after standing in the sun for hours, so that they could contribute to the direction of our Country. I thank the voters of all parties who did not fold despite the confusing process and chaotic scenes and remained in line with perseverance to cast their vote.”

“There continues to be a lot of confusion surrounding this government. From the blame game currently exhibited by the Parliamentary Register Commissioner and other election officials, to the Embattled Prime Minister’s silence regarding his corrupt Cabinet members, the PLP further shows they are unfit to manage the responsibilities of government. Beyond their incapability, they show no concern for honesty and the Prime Minister will run from accountability every time he makes a mess of his responsibilities.”

“Though the PLP’s unacceptable blunders have led to heightened emotions, I encourage every Bahamian to stop for a minute and thank our law enforcement and defense forces, our first-responders, public employees and all of our community leaders that serve our Country—their fellow Bahamians.

“And once again, I want to thank every Bahamian that voted Wednesday and will vote on May 10th. The FNM will never fail the demands of democracy to maintain a free and fair election and we will operate a government that serves all Bahamians”.
