FNM: A Recovery built on trust and accountability

The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding yesterday’s success at the Hurricane Dorian Pledge Conference:

“A glaring difference between this Administration’s management of disaster recovery versus the woeful PLP, after Hurricane Matthew in 2016, is trust and accountability. $1.5 billion in pledges were captured at yesterday’s Hurricane Dorian Pledge Conference, demonstrating the international community’s trust in the FNM Government’s ability to manage donated funds appropriately.

“Such an event at this scale never took place while the incompetent and corrupt PLP were in office. In fact, it never could have occurred, as the woeful PLP made it impossible for the international community to trust their management or motives. The difference now is that Prime Minister Minnis has built trust between The Bahamas and the international community through his proven commitment to putting people above politics while demanding higher expectations in accountability.

“As we know, under the PLP after Hurricane Matthew funds were misdirected, much went missing and a full recovery was stalled from the beginning – a result of failing to prioritize accountability. Our Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis, on the other hand, has tasked the Government with setting up the Bahamas National Recovery and Reconstruction Trust Fund, an independent entity that will remain under strict scrutiny and will provide reports on funds received and how the funds are used.

“Our FNM Government will continue building trust among constituents and the international community by remaining fully committed to running a Government that works for all Bahamians, not the select few, as we deserve nothing less from our elected leaders.”
