The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the FNM Government’s aggressive response to the COVID-19 outbreak in order to save lives and mitigate the associated economic impact:

“In light of the looming health crisis brought about by the COVID-19 virus outbreak, our Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis is showing the bi-partisan leadership our country needs as we face this growing global pandemic. Having been a doctor, our Prime Minister is uniquely aware of the crisis before us and the role our healthcare professionals will be playing in the days and months ahead to care for the infected. His Administration is taking the steps we need to make certain Government is doing everything in its power to maintain the health of citizens and lessen the economic impact of the disruption to everyday life. These measures include increased travel restrictions, quarantine measures for those returning from a number of countries, sports and event cancellations, among many other steps.

“The FNM applauds the Government for taking these necessary measures to focus on saving lives and we agree that politics needs to be set aside as all our elected leaders unite in their approach to address the growing crisis. As our Prime Minister said in Sunday’s speech, now is not a time for politics. It is a time to focus on how we can bring solutions and help our community. Let’s all follow those wise words because first and foremost we are Bahamians and working together to focus on meaningful solutions to the challenges we face as a country. May we rise from this current crisis to arrive as a more unified Bahamas than ever before.”
