FNM: Minnis Leading from the Front on Post-Dorian Recovery

The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding yesterday’s Hurricane Dorian Pledging Conference:

“Bahamians deserve elected leaders who take initiative and provide leadership, even during turbulent times. Time and time again this is the leadership we’re seeing from Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis, including his efforts seeking assistance in procuring disaster recovery funds.

“Leading the charge at yesterday’s Hurricane Dorian Pledging Conference, our Prime Minister delivered a resounding call to action to over 300 dignitaries and delegates from a number of governments, NGOs, financial institutions and philanthropic organizations. The event provided an opportunity for individuals and organizations from around the world to contribute directly, as well as non-financial support to The Bahamas’ disaster recovery effort.

“The woeful PLP’s reaction to Hurricane Matthew in 2016 resulted in no leadership, simply missed opportunities and stalled efforts as relief funds went missing and a recovery hardly materialized. While the neglectful PLP delivered uncertainty, the FNM is delivering hope. And while the woeful PLP exhibited incompetence, our FNM is demonstrating resilience.

“Bahamians should be proud of our Government’s ability to work with local volunteers, international NGOs, foreign governments and philanthropists all pulling on the same end of the rope towards ultimate recovery and reconstruction.

“Despite the woeful leadership of the PLP’s many attempts to manipulate the historic natural disaster for political reasons, the FNM will maintain its goal driven approach to helping families recover and return to a normal life. Dr. Minnis realizes the importance of a Prime Minister’s role in this vital endeavour and the FNM applauds his choice to lead from the front. The FNM will continue working to help restore families and businesses alike, as Bahamians deserve nothing less from their elected leaders.”
