FNM: No explanation for PLP’s lack of concern

The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the PLP’s continued failure to recognize the alleged victims of Peter Nygard:

“The old saying goes: Sometimes when there is smoke, there is fire. Yet in the case of their biggest donor, Peter Nygard, the PLP acts as if ‘there is nothing to see here, move along’. This in the face of more alleged victims coming forward since the filing of the sex-ring lawsuit against Nygard, and even as the FBI raided his company’s New York and California offices.

“We implore Brave Davis and his PLP to stand with all of us and the Bahamian women who have come forward with these serious allegations of having been systematically targeted and victimized by Peter Nygard. The case claims describe Nygard as the Jeffery Epstein of The Bahamas. For the women who have come forward saying they suffered abuse at Nygard Cay, their lives will never be the same. They should see that their Bahamian leaders stand with them and want justice to be served.

“The fact that Peter Nygard was the PLP’s most generous donor – with some estimates of him directing up to $10 million to PLP campaigns – should not stand in the way of doing what is right. Politics should not come before the people, and we need to send a clear message to everyone that Peter Nygard’s money doesn’t put him above our laws.

“The focus should be on the brave victims who are coming forward to share their stories, and the PLP should not seek to silence them by lashing out publicly as they have done – pointing the fingers at others. The knee-jerk reaction attempting to spin this growing investigation into a simple political sham sends a clear message to anyone entrapped in the alleged sex-ring that their words don’t matter. But we – and the rest of the Bahamian people – know that they do and want to make sure they have their time to speak and seek the justice they deserve.

“Let us hope that Brave Davis and his PLP recognize this and these brave women and they work with us all to get to the bottom of this because the Bahamian people deserve nothing less from their elected leaders.”
