FNM: Same PLP, same neglect of responsibility

The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the PLP’s criticism of the Prime Minister’s consideration of curfew in light of security concerns in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian:

“One side shows leadership, the other side keeps playing partisan games.  Most Bahamians realize that Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis is taking action to mitigate the issues we are facing in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, one of the most historically destructive storms to ever have hit The Bahamas, ripping through Abaco and Grand Bahama. From working on the ground, alongside civil workers and volunteers, to building a coalition of representatives who are actively seeking international assistance and setting a vision to better prepare The Bahamas for future storms, our Prime Minister is fighting to restore affected areas as quickly as possible.

“Yet we have the woeful PLP striking the same old and tired chord – attacking anything and everything the Minnis Administration does.  They are devoid of solutions and content to bark insults from the sidelines like an angry spectator at a sports event.  The old and tired Brave Davis, his henchman, Fred Mitchell, and their loquacious protégé, Chester Cooper, continue refusing to roll up their sleeves for the people they are responsible to represent while offering their endless stream of nonsensical criticism.  That seems like all they can – or want – to do even in a time of tragedy and recovery.

“Most people saw the rich irony in Brave Davis – of all people – claiming the government is failing to address crime – one wonders where he was during the last PLP administration?  Yet days later it’s the same Brave Davis who is now criticising the Government after it moved to put more police on the ground and is considering a temporary curfew to supplement the police effort. So which is it, Brave?  The fact of the matter is while the rest of the country is banding together in the face of this horrific tragedy, the PLP stands alone proving their singular objective is to score political points off this tragedy and that takes priority over helping Bahamians through this historic struggle.

“The page has been turned on the PLP which protected corrupt politicians and neglected their constituencies when they were in power.  And the days when those same politicians could manipulate government to steal from their own people is over. A new day in The Bahamas has risen thanks to the transformative vision of our Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis.

“The FNM applauds the Minnis Administration – and Dr. Minnis – for the steadfast commitment to leading The Bahamas forward and asks our friends to put aside their petty politics for the time being so they can join us, so that we might all work together in rebuilding The Bahamas and helping to heal the families in need.”
