Silence usually means consent and the deafening silence of the leader of the FNM in the face of Andre Rollins’ baneful STOP, REVIEW AND CANCEL threat suggest to many that the FNM has not learned from the error of their ways and appears hell bend on a repeat of the same.
Bahamians remember all too well that the last time the FNM government made good on their threat to the destabilize our economy with this foolish policy, the economy stalled and never recovered as this policy made conditions worse.
For this reason it was necessary for Dr. Minnis to set the record straight by standing up and speaking up and speaking clearly. To date he has failed on that score.
As facts and history do matter, the record clearly shows that the bankruptcy court in Delaware documented its legal judgment and in a 89-page legal ruling, Bahamas Supreme Justice Ian Winder also ruled on Baha Mar based on the facts in the submission by both sides. There is no evidence of collusion by the government of The Bahamas.
TWO COURTS HAVE RULED IN THE BAHA MAR MATTER IN TWO DIFFERENT JURISDICTIONS AND THERE IS NOT ONE SLIVER OF EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THE LIES AND DECEPTIVE, DIVISIVE, RACIST DIATRIBE SPEWED BY DR. ANDRE ROLLINS ON HIS FEET IN THE HOUSE. THIS IS NOTHING MORE THAN A LYING DECEPTIVE TALKING POINT AND THE LATEST SALVO IN A CAMPAIGN TO INTENTIONALLY MISLEAD THE PUBLIC THROUGH LIES AND FEAR MONGERING!
ANY DECISION REGARDING THE FUTURE OF BAHA MAR MUST BE APPROVED BY THE BAHAMAS SUPREME COURT.
As for the deceptive attempt of the FNM to spread lies and fear by rewriting history and creating a Chinese bogeyman for narrow and selfish political reasons, it is important to review the policies of the FNM government regarding the Peoples Republic of China.
It was the FNM government who severed diplomatic ties with Taiwan in favour of the Peoples Republic of China almost twenty years ago. It was the FNM government who approved the sale of half of Freeport to the Chinese. It was the FNM government who drove Harrahs away from the Bahama Mar project and arranged for the loan from the Chinese EXIM Bank to construct Baha Mar and agreed to the importation of 8,000 Chinese labourers. It was the FNM government who borrowed hundreds of millions of dollars from the Chinese government’s bank (including the $39 million North Abaco Port Project) for national development so the FNM has absolutely no problems with the Chinese or conducting business with them.
The problem with the FNM is very simply; they have lost political power and are prepared to use racism, jingoism, fear mongering and a Chinese bogeyman to scare Bahamians into supporting them politically; no more, no less.
HOW COULD THE CHINESE BE THE SAVIOR OF THE BAHAMAS WHILE THE FNM IS THE GOVERNMENT...BUT MYSTERIOUSLY BECOMES THE BOGEYMAN WHEN THE FNM LOSES POLITICAL POWER? THAT CONTRADICTORY MESSAGE CANNOT BE TRUSTED NOR CAN THE FNM MESSENGERS!
