Nassau, Bahamas - K. Peter Turnquest, Deputy Leader of the Free National Movement (FNM) and MP for East Grand Bahama, issued the following statement titled, Fishing Hole being another reminder of the PLP’s broken promises and last minute flam:

“Signs of tidal flooding at the Fishing Hole Road this past weekend is yet another reminder of the many broken promises made by the Progressive Liberal Party during the 2012 General Elections Campaign.  Then Official Opposition Leader, now Prime Minister Christie, stated that construction of a bridge would commence within the first 100 days of his Government, if elected.  The PLP won the elections and more than four and a half years later, the excuses continue to grow.

“The people of Grand Bahama have given up on this 'do nothing' and 'uncaring' Government.  With another General Elections nearing, this inept PLP Government is all out with flam and gimmicks trying to convince disappointed and frustrated Grand Bahama residents.

“Just days before Christmas last year, Prime Minister Christie and a band of cabinet ministers staged a ground breaking ceremony at the old Friendship Shopping Center in Eight Mile Rock.  Again, during the 2012 General Elections, the PLP touted a government complex at that site as a part of its master plan.  As a last minute election scheme, the people of West Grand Bahama have gotten nothing more than a Christmas Eve shovel in the ground show.

“This Government's snail pace to have the cause way at the Fishing Hole Road realized as promised and its ongoing attempts to fool the people of Grand Bahama prove blatant and shameful.  We need change.  And the Free National Movement represents that caring change.”
