Fred Mitchell on Smith's Point

Freeport, Grand Bahama - Fox Hill MP Fred Mitchell has called on the representative for High Rock Ken Russell to cause the government to invest in infrastructure for Smith’s Point, the native settlement just outside of Freeport.  Mr. Mitchell said that the infrastructure to support the tourism trade in Smith's Point has been neglected by the FNM government because the people in Smith Point are PLP voters.  He said they should not be victimized because they are PLPs.  Mr. Mitchell said that he was advised that each week some 500 people who are tourists visit the Smith's Point Fish Fry and that a sea wall needed to be constructed.  He said that some 250 pounds of snapper are sold there every week, some 100 pounds of crawfish, yet the Ministry of Tourism does not supply the necessary support for the Smith Point enterprise.  Mr. Mitchell urged the government to act to help the Smith Point community survive.  He was speaking at the rally held by the PLP on Thursday 25th March in Freeport.
