Did the Cabinet of the Bahamas happen to sit under a bunch of coconut trees and were consequently hit on their heads by Andros-sized coconuts?  Maybe that would explain why the Minister of Tourism said that the government is planning to fund another one of those failed events called, Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival 2017.  I guess the third time will be the charm?

I could’ve sworn that the country’s credit rating was downgraded to junk status, for some reason or the other?  They are the Cabinet, it happened on their watch, yet they are carrying on with this silly foreign festival, again.  One reason for the downgrade was wasteful spending, right?

Why would any sensible homeowner who can't afford to pay his mortgage, or her monthly bills, dip into their savings to throw a party that does not earn them a dime towards their bills?  What kind of responsible parent would do that and endanger his or her children's future, by plunging their household into further debt, or possibly, living on the streets?

These politicians are determined to throw another country's culture down our throats.  Why?  Luckily, the best and brightest musicians and artists in the country won't follow their lead.  These so-called leaders have taken more than twenty million ($20,000,000+) tax-payer dollars, and yes, VAT money, and tried to destroy our Bahamian culture.  To intentionally change us, but Junkanoo, and Rake-N-Scrape are still holding on for dear life, through shear will and the talent of its artisans.

Once again, their ambiguous, hedonistic festival will fail, wasting millions more, and still no transparency, nor accountability.  No forensic report of where the monies have gone.  Each year it gets worse, and this one, I predict, will be the nail in the coffin for their waste of the taxpayer’s-funded Carnival.

I agree with those who call for this Carnival to be privatized.  The Bahamian people should not have to carry the burden of a culture that is not our own.

Good riddance and take your Carnival with you.

Bahamian Culture first!
