Nassau, Bahamas - While Prime Minister Christie says he is doing an outstanding job for the Bahamian people, 600 more Bahamians are uncertain about their future and could soon join the already long unemployment line in Grand Bahama.

Weeks after 150 Bahamians were sent home following the closure of the Casino operations, Memories staff are worried they will be next.

Employees have been told the property would reopen in May 2017 following hurricane Matthew, but there is no indication of any work being done to ensure this happens. Workers have no idea if or when they will be paid. Where are the answers?

Leslie Lightbourne, DNA candidate for Pine Ridge and spokesperson on Labour, said, "What has this Christie administration done for Grand Bahama and it's workers. It's one thing to fly in and cut some ribbons, it's a whole different thing to actually ensure that Grand Bahamians are put in a position to make a decent living and put food on the table for their families."

We have seen a decline in all sectors on Grand Bahama. Labour issues plague the Grand Bahama Ship Yard, and there are a lot of people who are suffering.

The time has come for Prime Minister Christie to ring the bell so we, the Democratic National Alliance, can get Grand Bahama restored to the Pearl of the North it once was. Let's put the magic back in this city by ensuring that the Lucaya hotels get new committed ownership and Bahamian workers are protected, knowing their representatives will look out for their best interest first.
