After it was evident the defeat was imminent, Loretta Butler Turner and Dwane Sands shamelessly withdrew from the much anticipated leadership showdown during the recent FNM convention.

Now loyal supporters of Loretta-Butler Turner have a difficult decision to make. They must decide whether to support a Dr. Hubert Minnis to lead them during the 2017 general elections. They will have to decide whether to switch allegiances or stand by Dr. Minnis until the bitter end.

Please recall that these were the very persons who; aligned with Butler-Turner, insisted that they will never support nor vote for Dr. Minnis.

Collectively many view Dr. Minnis as a weak, uninspiring, untrustworthy, indecisive, stubborn and an incapable leader. This is what led to a damning letter written by the Gang of 6 to the Central Leadership Council of the Free National Movement. The letter desperately requested a convention to be held immediately.

Butler-Turner herself described the leadership of the FNM during their recent convention as: “dirty" and “corrupt”. She also accused Dr. Minnis of trying to silence her and steal the convention. Stating that the convention was “RIGGED” and “UNFAIR”, claiming the whole process was “Not Democratic.”

Suddenly less than two weeks after her scathing criticism of her party's “corrupt” leadership at their convention; she mysteriously changed her mind and is now calling for unity in the FNM and asked her supporters to lend their support to Dr. Minnis.

It is worthy of note that Loretta Butler Turner NEVER pledge to support Dr. Minnis. Therein lies a serious dilemma.

We are reminded that after a sustained and consistent attack by the Tribune and the Guardian upon the Leader of the Opposition, labeling him as a weak and ineffective leader. Additionally they threw their support behind the “Butler and Sands” team in their challenge against Dr. Minnis. This was reinforced by almost total support by Guardian Radio Talk show hosts.

Now Nicki Kelly in recent column claims the FNM leader “requires complete do over to achieve party unity”.

There are two things that are absolutely clear within the FNM. There's no leadership and no unity in the FNM before or after their recent convention.

Butler-Turner may want unity, but not if it means a stamp of approval for a political status quo within their party, which many FNM’s knows is fundamentally flawed and needs to be fixed.

The question is Can Dr. Hubert Minnis rest peacefully in what is now the post FNM convention season? Can the gang of six be trusted? Can the Humpty Dumpty egg of the FNM be put back together again?
