Opposition Leader receives ‘Hero of Bain Grants Town’ Award

Nassau, Bahamas - Opposition Leader the Hon. Dr. Hubert A. Minis was among the eight honourees to receive the designation as, a ‘Hero of Bain Grants Town’ during an awards ceremony held on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at the Performing Arts Centre at The College of The Bahamas. Coordinated by the Bain Grants Town Advancement Association, the event culminated a week of activities officially proclaimed “Bain Grants Town Heroes Week.”  

According to Rev. Dr. C. B. Moss, President of the Bain Grants Town Advancement Association, the event marked the fourth year that the Association spearheaded the effort to identify, recognize, and honour persons who have made outstanding contributions to Bain Grants or to The Bahamas.  

Born in Bains Town, and prior to entering frontline politics in 2007, Dr. Minnis served the country for over 30 years in the medical profession of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, during which time he was responsible for the delivery over five thousand babies.

“I am proud of my Bains Town heritage, said Dr. Minnis.  “I give credit to my mother, Rosalie North, my teachers at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, the nuns at St Martin’s convent, the teachers at Our Lady’s Primary School, Western Junior and St. Augustine’s College, for believing in me and helping me to rise above adversity to succeed,” Minnis said.  

Other recipients to receive the Heroes Award included Sir Arlington Butler, Ms. Victoria Grant, and Dr. Thomas Bastian.  Sir Clifford Darling, Rev. Dr. H. W. Brown, Mr. Frederick Munnings, Sr., and Mr. Osbourne “Ank” Rahming, were awarded posthumously.
