In the wake of revelations of the financial mismanagement of the Bank of The Bahamas’ and senior PLP officials admitting to pay-to-play tactics in all their governmental dealings, Leader of the opposition Dr. Hubert Minnis renewed his call for greater transparency and good government as parliament reconvenes.

“As the House of Parliament returns to session this week, it is imperative that the Bahamian people know that at least one party is going to stand up for them. The people demand accountability from their Government,” said Dr. Minnis.  “This week we will consider very important legislation regarding our airports and the Family Islands. These bills are key pieces of legislation for the future development of our country and, therefore, deserve serious consideration. However, we are concerned about the provisions in the bills that mandate government appointed boards, contracts and jobs. Recent events and past performance prove that we should all be sceptical of entrusting all this power in the hands of this Government.  Bahamians will only be comfortable if we ensure these appointments, contracts and jobs are determined in a fair and open manner.  From the Bank of The Bahamas to so many other pay-to-play instances across the country the people are very concerned with having all this unbridled power placed in the hands of the PLP.

“Because of the PLP’s mentality of only ‘helping those who help us’, tens-of-thousands of hard working men and women across our country are being deprived of providing for themselves and their families.  The FNM stands for a Bahamas free of such corruption where our people don’t have to be part of a club to be able to put food on their tables. This week and every week, the FNM will stand up for them,” Dr. Minnis concluded.

The Free National Movement will continue to offer real solutions to the problems facing our country.  We will provide the people with a clear choice of who should be governing The Bahamas.
