Nassau, Bahamas - (Statement, November 5th, 2015) The Bamboo Town Branch of the Progressive Liberal Party while cognizant of the vicissitudes of the cut and thrust of high stakes politics, expresses it disappointment with the manner in which its duly elected representative, Renward Wells, jumped ship in resigning from the PLP to join the FNM.

In his personal statement to the House on Wednesday, 4th November 2015, it is both baffling and ironic that Mr. Wells freely admits that he signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) without proper authorization. His fraudulent actions created problems for both the government and the party, yet pulled the proverbial “victimhood” card in his departure.

I hasten to point out that the LOI matter which the FNM no doubt fully planned to use as the center piece of their smear and slime campaign against Wells has been permanently tossed into the sea of forgetfulness as if the event never happened.

With “bleach” handshakes, “ammonia” hugs and “Pine Sol” backslaps and high-fives, Dr. Minnis and his colleagues made sure that Wells went from being a corrupt and seedy PLP politician to a “brave warrior” and a young meritorious FNM leader. That FNM crew had Wells “all fresh right up” in record time, careful not to leave one spot, stain or wrinkle on the young brother. The FNM shamelessly splashed cheap generic Drakkar Por Homme cologne on Wells from head to toe, pinning a rose on him to top it off.

Wonders never cease in the business of Bahamian politics.

Notwithstanding the theater and rank hypocrisy, Wells left unceremoniously, doing so without the courtesy of notice or advice to his constituency generals, officers and members of the PLP Bamboo Town Branch. If this is the measure of Mr. Wells’ character as a man and public official, then so be it.

As for the branch, we remain resolute in our commitment to identifying and causing to be elected in 2017, a suitable candidate that embodies the ideals and tenets of the Progressive Liberal Party and shares the collective desires and community building spirit of the good people of Bamboo Town.

Suffice it to say, this experience is nothing new to us and can only strengthen our collective resolve and sharpen our focus on the task ahead. In the interim we will look to the Hon. Shane Gibson of the adjacent constituency of Golden Gates, a competent, proven, compassionate and responsive leader to shepherd us as our shadow MP.

Clearly Mr. Wells has proven himself to be selfish and unreliable.
