PLP Statement on DNA Triad Release

Bradley B Roberts

National Chairman

Progressive Liberal Party

April 30th, 2014

The astonishing fantasy of the DNA is that their leadership sincerely believes that any rinky dink outfit, with the right Facebook lyrics and graphics and photo shopped images of their leader as if he is making a toothpaste commercial is sufficient for the intelligent, politically mature and studious voting public of The Bahamas to waft into office as the Government of their beloved and precious country.

The DNA continues to perpetrate this massive identity fraud on social media every day and it seems to have fallen in love with its own posts, tweets and Instagram’s.

The DNA should spend all of its available time on a frame work or formula which will make their organization more palatable to the Bahamian people rather than trying to demonize the PLP, the PLP Government or for that matter other political organizations in the country.

What the self-appointed leaders of the DNA continue to miss is that they hold the singular distinction in the entire Caribbean region of having fielded candidates for more than 80 per cent of the available seats in a general election and having failed to win any.

No political party in the history of the Bahamas since the formation of political parties in 1953 have acquired the unique record of failure of the DNA … If only they can get their bloated political ego to transfer into a seat in the House of Assembly so they can be taken seriously.

This sobering reality should always shake up and wake up the pretentious triad of McCartney, Mortimer and Wilson.

Rather than trying to  spin the record with an assessment of the PLP or the PLP Government’s performance in office, the DNA may wish to consider the following advice from the PLP, which is the oldest political party in the country and most successful political organization in the region:-

1.   Was the formation of the DNA born from the soul and ethos of the Bahamian people or is it just the selfish political ego of one of its three leaders who refused to be disciplined by his own former organization? We say that no amount of creative prose can get around the easily verifiable fact that the DNA became the alter ego of Branville McCartney, who foolishly misspoke as Junior Minister of Immigration in the FNM Administration only to learn that the press had duped him into disagreeing publically with an earlier statement issued by the FNM Government and its substantive Immigration Minister.

2.   Is the fact that the DNA seems to be the breeding nest of failed, spoiled and fringe politicians in any way a reason why it cannot produce a public record of democratic accountability and transparency on the selection of its top triad, its administration, its decision making apparatus and any regularly scheduled publicly announced constituency meetings?

3.   Does the DNA feel that the intelligent voters of the Bahamas will risk the future of their country with a political organization which to date is yet to open its books, its constitution, its public policy or ideology for in depth scrutiny and evaluation?

4.   Does the DNA think the Bahamian people are not aware that the organization was created after Mr. McCartney, then the Junior Minister of Immigration in the FNM Government, made a complete fool of himself by issuing and challenging the substantive position of his senior Minister and then Deputy Prime Minister Brent Symonette? Is this the type of leadership the Bahamian people want to exalt and encourage in this country? We don’t think so.

5.   Is it true that the DNA has hired an international marketing agency which specializes in brand management to dress up the DNA’s faltering campaign and sagging image and accordingly has  advised Mr. McCartney that  once he continues to flash photo shopped pictures of himself smiling  that the Bahamian people are fickle enough to mistake him for a 21st century leader?

6.   Has the DNA been so mesmerized by its own propaganda that they do not recognize that part and parcel of its continued political failure is the fact that at its very core and essence the Bahamian people still want to know why Mr. McCartney, then the Junior Minister for Immigration thought that he could overstep and out maneuver the substantive Minister for Immigration who at the time was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Brent Symonette.

7.   The fact that Mr. McCartney was relentless and unapologetic in his insolence towards his substantive Minister and the Deputy Leader of his party the FNM, Mr. Symonette, is something that the Bahamian people cannot forget as it shows the color of political character.

8.   While the mainstream media continues to use statements from the DNA to fill its available space and to satisfy the commercial arrangements, the public is still waiting to see Mr. McCartney mature to the point where he accepts he was wrong in his conduct towards Mr. Symonette and it is still not too late for him to apologize. For in that apology Mr. McCartney will also discover that he will be forgiven for not grasping the fundamentals of the Westminster political system which this country has tenured for over two hundred and fifty years.

It may very well be that in this sincere and absolute apology, Mr. McCartney and his triad may find themselves credit worthy, morally upright and qualified to offer political advice and critique before the organization can be sanitized through a history of democratic struggle and personal sacrifice.
