New Year's Day was a proud moment for the family of the Progressive Liberal Party and indeed The Bahamas as our party’s leader and the nation’s Prime Minister ascended to the chairmanship of CARICOM, effectively making the Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie the political head of the Caribbean Community.
On behalf of the party I offer congratulations to the Prime Minister on this important appointment. It is a red letter day for The Bahamas and reminiscent of the ascension of the late Prime Minister Sir Lynden Pindling to the chairmanship of Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings (CHOGM) in 1985. I am sure that all Bahamians are both proud and confident that Prime Minister Christie will represent the region well as he advances our common interests on the international stage of diplomacy.
The Progressive Liberal Party further congratulates the honourable member for Sea Breeze Hope Strachan and the honourable member for Mount Moriah Arnold Forbes on their cabinet appointments to the portfolios of substantive minister for Financial Services and State Minister for Works and Urban Development respectively. These appointments of our new generation leaders even after Hon. Ryan Pinder resigned from cabinet to pursue opportunities in the private sector, prove that the PLP’s Parliamentary Caucus has a deep bench from which to choose in facilitating the continuity of our national business.
Last but not least we congratulate the honourable member for Nassau Village and Deputy House Speaker the Hon. Dion 'Dynamite' Smith on his appointment as chairman of the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation (BAIC). Again we are confident that Mr. Smith will build on the excellent of his predecessor.
