The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the Prime Minister’s speech last night discussing the announcement of new projects and providing an update on the Dorian relief effort:

“Last night our Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, delivered an optimistic update, revealing a Heads of Agreement for a new five-star residential resort in South Abaco that will bring jobs and aid in the economic revival of the island. The project will also create new business opportunities for Bahamian business owners and entrepreneurs. Our FNM Government isn’t showing any signs it is slowing down when it comes to job growth and economic development.

“Over 600 jobs will be created as a result of the new resort and the additional infrastructure associated with the project. Local entrepreneurs will have more opportunities in agriculture, fisheries, heritage tourism and other industries.

“While our FNM Government is honoring its commitment to grow our economy and fuel job growth, it is concurrently managing the largest relief and reconstruction effort in our nation’s history, and getting results. Prime Minister Minnis outlined a comprehensive list of accomplishments, from providing over $1.7m in unemployment assistance, to paying out over $700,000 in rental assistance.

“Prime Minister Minnis understands much work remains in restoring the most devastated areas, but is sparing no time or resources to ensure a comprehensive reconstruction effort is completed. While the woeful PLP is busy drafting political rhetoric, the FNM is busy restoring lives and seeing through a complete reconstruction. Our FNM Government will continue working to bring new jobs and opportunities to The Bahamas while restoring the damage that remains because we deserve nothing less from our elected leaders.”
