Pintard: Under the PLP the Bahamian People Lose
By Senator the Hon. Michael Pintard

Mr. Roberts, much like a number of his colleagues with Ministerial posts refuses to speak to the crucial issues which confront Bahamians. Instead, as is his usual practice, he concentrates on personal attacks on any citizen/expatriate who criticizes the way his Party governs or he rolls out his version of ancient history that is irrelevant to the state of affairs in our country.

Meanwhile, our people face an uncertain future with no sense of the government’s plan to work in concert with the private sector to grow the economy, increase Bahamian ownership and reduce the very high unemployment rate. As Mr. Roberts hired writers penned his most recent attack on me (and the FNM leader), thousands of the people (Who we swore to serve and protect) cower in fear of crime or seek to recover from having been victimized by the unprecedented level of crime in general and violent crimes in particular. As this toothless dinosaur spends his alcohol soaked money to unearth or fabricate damaging tales to silence and hurt those he opposes, our people grapple with health and educational challenge that requires inspired and committed leadership to address. Leadership he has never been able to provide.

If Mr. Roberts perceive that I have descended into the gutter, surely it can only be that some message I sent reached him while he was there cooking up tall tales about 20,000 jobs created since 2012. The gutter has been a place of comfort for the likes of the PLP Chairman who is unable to engage in civil discourse with anyone who is genuinely interested in discussing the way forward for the Bahamas. I have tried, as has many others, to ask Mr. Roberts to stop it; stop issuing unhelpful and nasty comments about nation builders; stop behaving badly. He has not heeded any advice or warning. We should not be surprise given the fact that he has never understood that- No means No! No matter how loud the screams are for him to stop the Chairman of the PLP insists on having his way. This spirit of entitlement must end. He should not be free to do as he pleases because his friends are powerful and his money is long.

Bradley Roberts and those who mouth the nonsense he spouts must recognize that while I have not yet been elected to the Lower House it was not I who lost, instead it was the people of Centreville and Cat Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador who are stuck with two of the worst representatives to have ever been elected to the Bahamian Parliament. Under PM Christie, DPM Davis and Chairman Roberts (Bain and Grants Town) those three constituencies have deteriorated. My footprints are in the Bahamian sand and concrete. What are you best known for Mr. Roberts?

I am proud to be a part of the artistic community in the Bahamas and to have gained a solid reputation as a political satirist who learnt how to monetize the art while promoting social change. Yes Mr. Roberts, you have consistently sought to dismiss me as a comedian while many characterize you resembling at least one popular African-American comedian.

Mr. Roberts was once a passionate member of the UBP who I am told was unsuccessful when he first ran for the House of Assembly. Furthermore, PM Pindling knew him well enough to ensure that even after he was eventually elected he would not serve in his Cabinet.

Mr. Roberts has insulted the Junkanoo community by seeking to insult Dr. Minnis’ selection of candidates as a scrap gang. He clearly does not appreciate that scrap gang is the very essence of Junkanoo; scrap gang represents the Bahamian who wear no labels, pursue no prize except the joy one derives from celebrating our freedom, remembering our ancestors, releasing the stress accumulated in a society that has become hard to live in, especially under a PLP administration whose lust for power, insatiable appetite for wealth and whose poor work ethic threatens our stability.
