National Development Party
Planned Sale of BTC
February 11, 2011
The National Development Party puts the government on notice that the Bahamian people will not abide the sale of BEC to Emera or any other foreign entity under any circumstance.
Recently the government, through the junior minister of state for environment and the chairman of BEC, has been making suggestions that BEC is on the market and that two non-Bahamian companies are in the running for the acquisition. The government is warned that that day will never come.
This regressive FNM government seems intent on creating a plantation culture where Bahamians are perpetual employees while foreigners are owners of all significant aspects of our economy.
This FNM government is intent on sacrificing the dignity and standard of living not only of Bahamians who are alive, but those who are unborn. They are not nationalists and they are certainly not visionaries.
The Bahamian people must stand against the sale of BEC to foreigners just as we must stand against the sale of BTC to Cable & Wireless.
When the National Development Party forms the government, we will ensure that all public corporations that are privatized are sold to Bahamians. Until then, we will ensure that Bahamian assets remain in Bahamian hands.
