Remarks By Philip Brave Davis MP

Cat Island, Rum Cay And San Salvador

Deputy Leader Of The PLP

Mt. Moriah Branch Of The PLP

Constituency Office Opening

8PM

18th February, 2012

Mount Moriah are you READY NOW!

Are you ready!

Mr. Party Leader……

To our candidate who will become THE NEXT MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR MT MORIAH ARNOLD FORBES.

And to you ladies and gentlemen,

Good evening!

As one MP told another sitting in the government I now say to Hubert Ingraham:

If you feel you can win an election, BE BRAVE, find some COURAGE - call Government House and RING THE BELL!

Mt. Moriah, it is time to give Tommy T his report card.

It is time for you to tell Papa and the FNM you have had enough!

They are on the run. They are desperate, dealing in lowness and resorting to telling lies.

The facts are:

Under the FNM, the management of the crime crisis has spiraled out of control.

Another senseless death rocked the nation last evening, pushing the murder count across the country to 17 since the beginning of the year, just seven weeks ago.

Since 2007 we have seen a record-breaking number of murders with no solution or relief in sight.

Just this week, Hubert Ingraham was in Southern New Providence where crime numbers are high to say: There is no quick fix to crime.

Well, Hubert Ingraham, I want to tell you that, yes, there is a solution, and it begins on day one when the people of the Bahamas get rid of you and the FNM.

Let me speak directly to Hubert Ingraham tonight.

You Papa Clown, through your spiteful, vindictive and mean-spirited government.

-            Dismantled Urban Renewal.

-            You ended School Policing.

-            You ended Witness Protection.

-            And you ended Swift Justice.

You waited four years before even attempting to speak about the vexing crime crisis troubling the country.

You abandoned the idea of us coming together, after we in the PLP called for a bipartisan approach to the crisis.

You failed to deliver protection to hundreds of souls whose lives were short-lived because your uncaring government couldn't protect them.

Ladies and Gentlemen, here are the facts:

Since the FNM took office, 443 persons have been murdered.

Murders have doubled under their watch – doubled.

There are as many as three hundred and five – 305 – persons out on bail for murder right now.

They are back on the streets because this government is utterly incapable of bringing murder cases to trial within a reasonable time period.

And to conclude this picture, the government has secured fewer than 25 convictions for murder in nearly five years.

This my friends is a national emergency.

Young students at the College of the Bahamas report senseless attacks being waged against them by criminal element.

Incidents from armed robberies to kidnapping are said to have occurred and their cries to this government for help have fell on deaf ears.

I submit, Mt Moriah, the Free National Movement is bankrupt of ideas when it comes finding a solution for crime.

They are clueless. They are lost and are not living up to their obligations to protect the Bahamian people! They have failed you miserably!

Mount Moriah,

The facts are true: THERE IS NO PEACE ON OUR STREETS. Crime is out of control and for this you must send Orville Alton Tommy Turnquest home.

Send the FNM a loud message because they have failed you!

When you elect your next PLP Government, you will be electing a team that BELIEVES IN YOU!

A team that believes in protecting you. One that believes in safe streets.

You will be electing a team that believes in investing in the Bahamian people. And a team that believes in Young People.

Our Plan Project Safe Bahamas recognizes the complexity of the problem and offers solutions, solutions that bring together law enforcement, communities, the private sector, clergy and citizens.

We will bring back programmes that were working, like Witness Protection and School Policing, along with many new and innovative measures as well, including Operation Cease Fire, with a focus on repeat offenders, saturation patrols in crime hotspots, and direct intervention in the cycle of revenge killings with new outreach workers trained in conflict mediation.

Bahamas we have a Plan to fight crime.

Mount Moriah!

When you see Tommy Turnquest or Hubert Ingraham, ask them for me where is their solution to this crisis?

They are Desperate!   They have now, as our Party Leader has said, taken the low road and have resorted to telling lies.

Hubert Ingraham, I can tell you, has no solution to the problems facing our country.

When he isn’t busy rehashing some old lie, he is under the table cutting some new contract deal and awarding jobs to foreigners while unemployment among young Bahamians stands at 34%.

From what I know Mt Moriah, we are headed in the wrong direction with the FNM!

Desperate to win as his popularity slips into single digits, Papa Clown is issuing contracts night and day while small businesses suffered and went out of business under his miserable fives years in office.

Trust me on this, a Category 5 Storm name “PLP” is headed for the FNM!

IT churned strongly in West End last night where thousands gathered to tell Hubert Ingraham's party that they headed on the road to destruction!

Ladies and gentleman.

We need Arnold Forbes in the House.

We need him because like you, he believes in the Bahamas!

He is a committed Christian man who believes in young people.

He is another fine example of the Bahamian dream rising from the lower levels of struggle onto Bay Street as a successful businessman and lawyer.

He will do you proud, Mt Moriah, and I urge you tonight to send him into the Parliament.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is time to register today. You cannot get rid of the FNM and vote for the PLP if you do not register.

Do it the next business day, cause as it ain’t LONG NAH!

Mount Moriah!

Come with us as we restore peace on the streets and become our brothers' and sisters' keepers.

Come with us as we set a course to Put Bahamians Back to Work!

Come with us as we point young Bahamians into an era of prosperity and growth!

Come with us as we build our nation and restore Opportunity to thousands of our countrymen and women.

Come with us as we restore JOB OPPORTUNITIES for our economy.

Come with us, and send to Parliament our Brave Arnold Forbes!

Stay with us!

PLP….PLP….PLP

Thank You and God Bless!
