Nichol’s Town, North Andros - Remarks by Bradley B Roberts National Chairman, Progressive Liberal Party & Progressive Young Liberals at First Andros Hero’s Gala Banquet North Andros High School on May 21st 2016:

Prime Minister and Party Leader Perry G Christie

Dr. Perry Gomez Minister of Health and MP North Andros & Berry Islands

Honourees

Stalwart Councilors

Officers and Members of North Andros PLP and Progressive Young Liberals

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is always a joy to be here in North Andros the birth place of my maternal grandmother. I am delighted to observe the progress that has been made since 2012 led and advanced by your Member of Parliament Dr. Perry Gomez and the strong pledge for more to come. Prime Minister and Dr. Gomez, our Leaders in The Berry Islands have shared with me their shopping list and I assured them they will not be overlooked.

I am heartened and delighted to be a part of this generational celebration when the next generation of leaders within the Progressive Liberal Party, the Progressive Young Liberals, pauses to pay homage to the elder statesmen of the party by simply saying “THANK YOU!”

I thank the organizing committee for their efforts and this show of respect.

Your theme “Majority Rule” should be a constant reminder to all of us in particular our young men that the transition from Minority Rule not a single shot was fired but was brought about though the power of the ballot.

Referendum day is June 7th which allow Bahamians the opportunity to Vote Yes all the way and ensure that all Bahamians are treated as equals under the law.

I am keenly aware that the persons being honoured are largely unsung heroes – men and women who have decided to assume supporting roles in building this organization. It has not been easy for the honourees to carry the banner of the PLP especially while the party laboured in opposition as politics in small-island communities can be particularly vicious and mean-spirited.

Those fearless soldiers remained faithful and true to the ideals of the Progressive Liberal Party in the face of extraordinary odds and risk to their very livelihood and as National Chairman it is important to let you know that your collective sacrifices have not gone unnoticed.

I thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to this great organization.

I will be remiss if I neglected to point out the historic significance of Andros to the development, prominence and success of the PLP. Andros was the first Family Island to send a PLP Parliamentarian to the House of Assembly when Clarence A. Bain was elected in 1956 as part of the Magnificent Six. Andros will always hold a special place in the heart of the PLP.

I congratulate the honourees who have worked tirelessly in promoting the tenets and ideals of the PLP and for fighting to keep North Andros in the family of the PLP.

I pray God’s richest blessings on all of the honourees as you continue to steadfastly work to make Andros and The Bahamas the best little island and country in the world.
