Remarks by Honorable Dr. Hubert Minnis, Leader of the Free National Movement at North Abaco FNM Rally Monday, May 1, 2017:

North Abaco; F-N-Ms, Good evening.

It is good to be back in North Abaco. Abaco, Are you ready for change?

Are you sick and tired of the PLP? There is a wave of change sweeping The Bahamas. We need North and South Abaco to be a part of this change. ELECTION DAY WILL BE A RED TSUNAMI!!!

North Abaco; FNMs:

The FNMs all across our Bahamas are united and strong!!! I am proud!!!

We have overcome division and distraction. We are All Together as ONE STRONG FREE NATIONAL MOVEMENT!!! WE ARE READY FOR CHANGE AND READY TO GOVERN!!!

We are united in purpose and vision. We are united in defeating a bankrupt PLP. We are united in bringing change to The Bahamas. And we are strong and growing stronger. FNMs have come home. Many PLPs are coming with us. Many who voted DNA last time are saying they can’t afford to make that mistake again. They know that the PLP and DNA are working together to block change and to keep the status quo.

They know that a vote for the DNA is a vote for the PLP. Even as the FNM is united and strong – the PLP is increasingly divided. And they are getting weaker and weaker by the day. Their leader, SLEEPING PERRY CHRISTIE, is literally sleeping on the job. Since he can’t keep up, he really should retire. CHRISTIE won’t DECIDE to retire voluntarily. SO WE THE PEOPLE WILL DECIDE FOR HIM.

ELECTION DAY MAY 10TH WILL BE RETIREMENT DAY FOR PERRY CHRISTIE!!!!

North Abaco:

The PLP is now saying that they are the party of change. Sometimes if you don’t laugh; you’ll weep. Well, all we could do is laugh at the PLP. Perry Christie has been in politics for 40 years….40 YEARS!!! He may be many things. But he is no change agent. And he certainly isn’t change you can believe in. LISTEN TO ME CAREFULLY, A VOTE FOR THE PLP IS A VOTE FOR THE SAME, tired, corrupt, incompetent, victimizing party that we have suffered under for years.

If you put them back in office there is one thing I can guarantee; it will be more of the same. Make no mistake about it; the PLP wants to continue business as usual. The truth is, in this election, I am the only leader who has a real chance of providing the change our country needs. I am a transformational leader.

My brothers and sisters,

In 10 days and by the grace of God, CHANGE IS COMING TO THE BAHAMAS!!!!

The PLP refuses to be accountable to the people. I WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF MY GOVERNMENT!!! The FNM will be accountable for how we spend your money. I will introduce campaign and party funding legislation, along with tougher public disclosure legislation for parliamentarians. I will hold, and I will insist that FNM Members of Parliament hold town hall meetings with their constituents.

All major government contracts will be published in the dailies. Unlike the corrupt and victimizing PLP, we will ensure that major contracts go through the tendering process. The PLP granted over $20 million in contracts in Andros without submitting them to a proper tendering process. Brave Davis who misled the House and the Bahamian people with the dorm at BAMSI is not change. Jerome Fitzgerald begging a developer for contracts is not change. The greedy and grabalicious Attorney General Allyson Maynard Gibson is not change.

THE FNM WILL INTRODUCE ANTI CORRUPTION LEGISLATION WITH AN INDEPENDENT DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS WITH NO OVERSIGHT BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL. ONLY THE DIRECTOR WILL BE ABLE TO ISSUE A NOLLE PROSEQUE.

The PLP is not the party of change. As your prime minister, I WILL BE YOUR AGENT OF CHANGE!!!

North Abaco:

When I became Leader of the FNM I put together a new generation of leaders for the FNM. I am proud that the FNM has a vibrant new team of leaders along with some experienced in government. I am especially proud of Darren Henfield, THE NEXT MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR NORTH ABACO, and James Albury, THE NEXT MEMBER OF PARLIANMENT FOR CENTRAL AND SOUTH ABACO. They are your change agents in Abaco. They are impressive young men and will serve Abaco well. They are a part of a new generation of leaders.

North Abaco:

During the North Abaco by-election the PLP promised you many, many things. As usual, they didn’t deliver on their promises. They gave you an MP who had one of the worst attendance records during this Parliament. He didn’t care enough about you to attend to your business in the House. The FNM is different.

In Hubert Ingraham you had an excellent Member of Parliament. In Hubert Ingraham we all had an excellent Prime Minister! I wish to pay tribute to my predecessor as Leader of the FNM. On behalf of the entire Free National Movement I thank him for his extraordinary service to Abaco and to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

For North Abaco,

As Prime Minister, I will bring in a new era of Education Reform. All of your students who qualify will be allowed to attend the University of The Bahamas free of charge. They will also be assisted with accommodations and provided with a monthly stipend to assist with living costs. We have committed to a new era of reform and modernization in local government.

We will also amend existing legislation and policies to enhance and increase the authority of Family Island Local Government. It is crucial that you have the ability to make decisions for your own economic growth. A proportionate amount of resources collected from your island should remain here for your island’s development. And each island will be encouraged to form its own economic council to guide and drive your own economic future. I know for Abaco this is especially important.

Abaco, I believe in advancing your second home market to benefit more Bahamians. We will provide incentives to stimulate your construction industry even more. Abaco is ripe, to develop the second home rental industry similar to the website Homeaway.com. We will create incentives and, protections to allow Bahamians to take full advantage of this lucrative industry.

ABACO, you know the value of land ownership. Land is a major requirement for wealth creation and economic empowerment. LAND REFORM IS HARD BUT IT MUST BE DONE. We cannot continue the past practice, of laying out the red carpet for foreigners, to own and lease crown lands, while at the same time, tying Bahamians up in red tape with no land. We pledge that immediately upon becoming the government we will begin the process of expediting all crown land applications. The vexing problems associated with generation and commonage lands will also be addressed.

Abaco is uniquely situated to take advantage of a more sustainable model of tourism. Especially, in terms of boutique hotels, eco and heritage tourism, and small hotels powered fully by renewable energy.

Brothers and Sisters:

Change is coming to The Bahamas. On behalf of Darren Henfield, and James Albury, I ask for your support for the FNM.

AS I CLOSE, I NOTE THAT IN NASSAU RECENTLY, THE PLP COPIED US AND WENT TO RM BAILEY PARK. THEY ARE COPYCATS. I AM REMINDED OF THE STORY IN 2 KINGS. ELISHA’S SERVANT SAW AN ARMY AND ASKED WHAT SHOULD THEY DO. ELISHA ANSWERED, “Do not fear..... HE TOLD HIM DO NOT FEAR....For those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

FNMS, I PRAY YOU COULD SEE WHAT I SEE.

I SEE AN ARMY OF BAHAMIANS IN A SEA OF RED.

I SEE AN ARMY OF BAHAMIANS ALL ACROSS THIS ISLAND,

AND ALL ACROSS THIS NATION WHO WANT WHAT WE WANT.

THEY WANT CHANGE.

FNMS, I SEE A VICTORY!!!

I SEE A VICTORY!!!

The long national nightmare is coming to an end. Let us look to the horizon and the dawn of a new day. “Lift up your heads to the rising sun.” We have nine more days to Victory. I call on every Bahamian to go out on Election Day and vote for the Free National Movement Candidate.

May God bless you and may He continue to bless our beautiful Bahamas.

Thank you and Good night.
