Nassau, Bahamas - Sidney Collie, Chairman of the Free National Movement (FNM), issued the following statement on the ongoing BAMSI campaign ads issue:

“True to form instead of simply addressing an issue that is within their control the PLP and the Deputy Prime Minister would rather throw up smoke screens, point fingers and use misdirection. The same is true with their BAMSI political ads. They have the power to address this and end this - yet all the public gets is political attacks insults and dodging. The Bahamian people want to know – has the PLP been using the BAMSI to fund some of their political advertising and if so why? One would hope even the PLP – would at least acknowledge that using the people’s money for political ends is wrong.

“It is unfortunate that we are governed by a Deputy Prime Minister that professes to say we can’t discern between politics and government. Maybe that is because this Government over the last five years has blurred those lines for their own gain. The people won’t forget that it was Brave Davis himself when questioned about their failed campaign finance reform promise from 2012 said that ‘no one has gotten around to it’. They must understand that they reap what they sow.

“In the face of smoke and mirrors we must again call on the PLP to stop using BAMSI money for their campaign activities. This does not pit us against BAMSI as they would suggest, instead it puts us on the side of the people who don’t want their government seizing their tax dollars to pay for the PLP’s political campaign. We are simply standing up with the people and again calling on this PLP government and the Deputy Prime Minister to be transparent and release the details of who paid for these BAMSI political ads. If they have done no wrong here this should be a simple thing to do, but unfortunately under their corrupt regime it is a necessary endeavour to prove to the people that they haven’t blurred the lines and abused their power once again.”
