Nassau, Bahamas - Sidney Collie, Chairman of the Free National Movement (FNM), issued the following statement on the Prime Minister failing to table the Boundaries Commission report in Parliament today:

“How can this Government plan to call an election when they have repeatedly failed to deliver on their responsibility of finishing the Boundaries Commission report? We know the embattled Prime Minister and his PLP Government have tried to intimate female voters with their dress code tactics, yet it seems they are willing to go even further by preventing Bahamians from learning which constituency they will be voting in. This is a desperate act of a desperate party trying to cling to power after years of disastrous, incompetent, and failed leadership.”

“Five years ago the Bahamian people had the map in November, they were empowered to study their options and know their choices for office. Is it any wonder why some Bahamians have been slow to register when this Government is sending signals that they would rather hold this election in the dark of night, away from prying eyes similar to how they conduct Government businesses behind closed doors in secrecy?”

“The Bahamian people deserve to know their constituencies and who is holding up the process. Is it the embattled Prime Minister-since he stated last week that once the Commission finished their version of the map he could make any changes he saw fit. Is he making changes that he believes are favourable to his rule – like a dictator would do? The embattled Prime Minister and the PLP should know that voter suppression is a campaign strategy for rulers who know they have lost the confidence of the people.”

“Try as they may, this PLP Government cannot hold back the winds of change. When all is said and done, the people will decide their future and the FNM trusts the people. When they remove the PLP from power this next election, the people will finally have their time and the FNM will work every day to serve them.”
