Spread the Word Days

Pastor Cedric Moss: Today was the launch of Spread the Word Days for Think, Bahamas! Under the cover of shady clouds, and decked out in their highly visible safety yellow t-shirts, Think, Bahamas! volunteers took to streets at the intersection near the Mall at Marathon and passed out the attached Referendum 2016 postcard as part of their overall effort to get their message out. They were overwhelmingly embraced by motorists who gladly received the postcards and enthusiastically encouraged them in their work.

Think, Bahamas! supports Bill 1 but opposes Bills 2, 3, and 4; however, the postcard strategically focuses on Bills 1 and 4. It is creatively designed in the quickly recognizable colours of the Bahamian flag — yellow, black, and blue. As Bill 4 is the primary Bill that Think, Bahamas! opposes, the postcard strongly focuses on Bill 4. In bold, attention grabbing fonts, voters are called to “Close the door on Bill 4” and “Vote no.”

The postcard also calls voters to support Bill 1 to “give children born abroad (in wedlock) to Bahamian men AND women the right to be constitutionally entitled to Bahamian citizenship at birth.” As Bill 1 is the only Bill that Think, Bahamas! supports, their slogan for Bill 1 is “Say ‘yes’ to the best and ‘no’ to the rest!”

Leading up to referendum day, Think, Bahamas! has several Spread the Word Days planned, all in an effort to try to reach as many voters as possible and call them to think about the issues at stake in this referendum and vote accordingly.

Think, Bahamas! seeks to provide Bahamian voters with a clear understanding of the Four Constitution Amendment Bills being put before them in Referendum 2016. While those in the government’s campaign are emotionally calling for a blanket “yes” vote, others are thoughtlessly calling for a blanket “no” vote, and some are sending confusing messages; Think, Bahamas! is calling voters to think, then vote.
