Kenneth Romer, chief operations officer for Sky Bahamas said that
while companies frequently focus on profits, what sets Sky Bahamas apart
is the company's commitment to making an impact on the community.
"SkyBahamas has a particular philosophy where we want to put people
over profits. We believe that if we take care of people the profits are
going to eventually come."
Romer said, the company has partnered with several local organizations to help them accomplish their objectives.
Now to continue on in that same light, he said, SkyBahamas is
presently looking into working along with the Department of Social
Services in some way.
Romer noted that the company is particularly interested in youth development.
"We are actually engaging in talks to partner with Providing Access to Continued Education (PACE) and Program Sure," he said.
The company, Romer said, is presently sponsoring the Cat Island
Orphanage and is looking for ways it can help out in Grand Bahama.
"Program Sure and PACE seem to be the right fit right now for our
vision as a company in terms of helping young people," Romer said. "We
are going to be, really, partnering with them and doing quite a bit more
with them and our young men."
He noted that Grand Bahama has been hard hit and the company is going
to make it a mission to contribute to the betterment of its people and
improve the economy.
"We are committing ourselves to really working with the community.
Grand Bahama, we feel, is one of the more deprived communities right
now. It's been hard hit in recent times and we need to look at ways to
try and stimulate the economy and its people," Romer said.
He said the company's stance is consistent with being a good corporate citizen.
Romer said, he would en-courage other corporate citizens to go into
the community and assist one or two people because it can make a huge
difference for Grand Bahama.
"Our motto is based on giving to the community first. Our brand is
going to be a brand consistent with our own corporate philosophy and we
are going to be a company that really cares about community, the people
we service," he said. "We are in the Grand Bahama community for the long
run."
