Epitomizing the 2018 theme, “Let the Children Play,” some danced, sang and clapped as they participated in this year’s Costume Parade. Toddlers and teachers representing twenty-two government pre-schools lined the streets and paraded from Augusta Street to Arawak Cay culminating activities in recognition of Pre-School Week, Thursday, April 19.

Public Works Minister supports Witness Anonymity Amendment Bill - Apr 19, 2018 - 8:32:55 PM

The Hon. Desmond Bannister, Minister of Public Works, called on members of the House of Assembly to unite in their opposition to murderers, drug dealers and human traffickers, and underscored that Parliament will leave “no stone unturned” in its efforts to empower the courts to convict those who are truly guilty of such “heinous” crimes.

Minister Bannister addressed the Criminal Evidence (witness anonymity) Amendment Bill, 2018 in the House of Assembly, Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

The toddlers seemed oblivious to the scorching sun as they sang, listened to ‘Once Upon A Time’ stories and played on the courtyard of Willard Patton School as the Department of Education hosted a Literacy Fair, Wednesday, April 18.

The 15th Annual Pre-School Week is being observed. “Let the Children Play” is this year's theme.

Minister Dames: Amendment to Witness Anonymity Act not an attempt to infringe on rights of the accused - Apr 18, 2018 - 7:29:31 PM

During his seconding of the amendment to the Criminal Evidence (Witness Anonymity) Act, 2011, Minister of National Security the Hon. Marvin Dames said, on April 18, 2018, that it is not an attempt to infringe on the rights of the accused for a fair trial, but a means to ensure that the rights of witnesses are equally protected, which, he noted, is considered to be the foundation of successful criminal justice systems.

“The Criminal Justice System is one that operates under the tenets of fairness and balance,” Minister Dames said in the House of Assembly...

Minister Symonette remarks to World Trade Organization (WTO) Consultations - Apr 17, 2018 - 11:38:54 PM

In the year 2000, The Bahamas obtained observer status in the world trade organization which permitted The Bahamas to become acquainted with the rules and procedures of the world trade organization (WTO).  It also enabled The Bahamas to prepare for and begin negotiations for accession to the WTO. In 2001, The Bahamas applied for full membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO). The decision to apply for membership in 2001 was based upon the following rationale:

The Bahamian economy was largely integrated into the global economy; driven largely by its tourism and financial services sectors with their global reach...
