40 Haitian Nationals found in waters off Little Inagua; 6 Haitian nationals to be charged

40 HAITIAN NATIONALS FOUND IN WATERS OFF LITTLE INAGUA

Last evening, April 9th, 2019 the Department of Immigration at Inagua, confirmed that (40) Haitian nationals were turned over by The Royal Bahamas Defence Force. This group consisted of (32) Males, (7) Females and (1) minor, they are reported to be in good physical condition.  Information received on April 8th, 2019 indicated that a vessel had ran aground near Little Inagua with possible persons onboard. HMBS Durwood Knowles was dispatched from the RBDF base at Inagua. These migrants were rescued and transported to Matthew Town where they were turned over to Immigration Officials. They are presently being detained at the Police Station. 

6 HAITIAN NATIONALS TO BE CHARGE IN MAGISTRATE’S COURT

On today’s date,  (5) Females and (1) Male is expected to be arraigned in Magistrate’s Court #6, each on one count of Illegal Landing, in contravention to Section 19(1)a and punishable under Section 19(2) of the Immigration Act. Officers Lashandawn Adderley and Shandeshia Marshall will be prosecuting.
