FREEPORT, The Bahamas - Before having a group of children assist him in the lighting of the giant Christmas Tree at Police Headquarters, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police and Officer in Charge for Grand Bahama and the Northern Bahamas, Emrick Seymour expressed hope that the lighted tree would ignite a spirit of kindness and love among all Bahamians.
These characteristics, he noted, are virtues that are so needed within today’s society.
“In that spirit of Advent, we in the Royal Bahamas Police Force, light this Christmas Tree and we hope that it ignites that spirit into the hearts of each and every one of you.”
This year’s tree lighting ceremony, held at the Gerald Bartlett Police Complex, was under the theme “the true meaning of Christmas, a celebration of life.”
The event focused on the youth of the island. The music was rendered by the youth, including Walter Parker Primary School Choir, Urban Renewal Youth Band, Freeport Primary School Boys Choir; Lucayan International School gave a scripture reading.

Before officially lighting the tree and closing out the ceremony, ACP Seymour emphasized the need for those present to be thankful for being able to attend another Tree lighting ceremony at the start of the Christmas season.
Bringing the keynote address, was Pastor Desmond Sturrup of the Sunrise & Bethsheba Seventh Day Adventist Church, who said the true meaning and joy of Christmas was not out of something that was manmade, but rather of a sacrifice that God himself had made for mankind.
