Nassau, The Bahamas – One hundred sixty-nine All-Purpose Workers will soon be hired in public schools throughout the country the Hon. Jeffrey Lloyd, Minister of Education announced Wednesday, June 2 in his 2021/2022 Budget Contribution to the House of Assembly.

“We recognize that the pandemic is not over and that we still need to exercise continued caution to minimize risks to students and staff on our campuses,” said Minister Lloyd.

The new hires will conduct temperature checks, ensure students are masked, maintain social distance, and follow any other protocols prescribed by the Ministry of Health.

“These workers, will in the first instance support the safety measures in our schools and allow our administrators and security officers to do their respective jobs. They will also be required to fill HR deficits on the various campuses where they are posted.

“This is a well-thought out recruitment drive precipitated by the climate in which we live today. We cannot place the responsibility of maintaining safety protocols on already overburdened teachers, administrators and security personnel,” he added.  (BIS Photo/Kemuel Stubbs)
