Ambassador Collie Receives Proclamation from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated

WASHINGTON, DC – His Excellency Sidney S. Collie, Ambassador of The Bahamas to the United States of America and Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the Organization of American States, was honoured with a proclamation from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, January 11, 2018 in commemoration of "his outstanding years of unparalleled service, dedication, and commitment to The Bahamas and the world."

The Proclamation was presented by Dr. Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, International Vice-President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, who described Ambassador Collie as a "humble and quiet man" and praised him for his "fear of God and work ethic".

In receiving the Proclamation, Ambassador Collie expressed his appreciation to the members of Alpha Kappa Sorority, Incorporated, and highlighted the work of the Sorority, "particularly in The Bahamas, where the Eta Psi Omega chapter works diligently to continue the Organization’s legacy of sisterhood and service by helping those most in need."

In addition to members of the executive leadership of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the presentation was attended by members of the New Providence-based, Eta Psi Omega Chapter, of which Mrs. Mavis Johnson-Collie, wife of Ambassador Collie, is a former president.

Established in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, is the first Black Greek-letter sorority. The Sorority celebrated its 110th Founder's Day in its birthplace of Washington, DC, January 11-15, 2018.
