Nassau, The Bahamas - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Works the Hon. Desmond Bannister supported the budget for 2021/2022 fiscal year during his contribution.

The Deputy Prime Minister Bannister said “we have presented a budget that faces the stern reality of an international recession and pandemic.”

This is the budget that the government firmly believes will accelerate the recovery of the economy, he said.  It is a budget that every loyal, patriotic citizen will support.

This annual exercise, Minister Bannister said, is one of the great hallmarks of our thriving democracy.  It is one of the reasons why The Bahamas is, in fact, one of the world’s greatest democracies, despite the small size of our population.

“No reasonable person will disagree,” with the fact that the government has been fiscally responsible, so much so that it took the two worst disasters in the county’s history to set the government back from achieving a balanced budget during this first Minnis administration.

I urge all Bahamians to take a serious look at this plan for growth and to support it to ensure that our beloved Bahamaland returns to the international place of prominence that we all know it should hold.
We may not all agree with the best way to achieve a budget line but no one can.

Job creation, small business development health care improvements and vaccination, tourism development public and private sector investment and digitization innovation are among the core pillars of fiscal responsibility being improved.
