NASSAU, Bahamas -  It has come to the attention of the Ministry of National Security that The Bahamas Coat of Arms is being produced in part on merchandise, without the written approval of the Minister of National Security.

As a result, the Ministry of National Security brings to the attention of the general public that the Flag and Coat of Arms (Regulation) Act Chapter 32 governs the use of the National Flag and Coat of Arms.  The Ministry wishes to draw attention of the public to Section 4 (b) of the Act which advises among other things that no person shall without the written permission of the Minister:

Use or permit to be used the National Flag or Coat of Arms or any part of the design in connection with any business, trade, calling or profession in a manner calculated to lead to the belief that he/she is authorized to use the Coat of Arms in that connection.

Any person who contravenes the provisions of this subsection shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding two hundred and fifty dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months or to both such fine and imprisonment.

The National Symbols of The Bahamas that currently fall within the purview of the Ministry of National Security are the Flags – the Bahamas National Flag, the Governor General’s Flag, and the Prime Minister’s Flag – and the Coat of Arms.
