NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs honoured and celebrated the contributions of Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Mr. Vernal Collie in a Retirement Party on Saturday, April 11, at the Paul Farquharson Conference Centre, Police Headquarters.

Mr. Collie retires after 46 continuous years of commendable service to the Government of The Bahamas first as an educator and then in the legal field as a Prosecutor in the Office of the Attorney General.

He began his career as a young "monitor" teacher and moved up the ranks at the Ministry of Education as a Senior Master at the R.M. Bailey High School in New Providence before he embarked on a course of study towards his Bachelor's Degree in Law from the University of The West Indies (UWI) at Cave Hill, Barbados. He then studied at the Norman Manley Law School and returned home to make his contributions as a Prosecutor at the Office of the Attorney General where he has mentored many young lawyers.

He appeared in the Magistrate's Court in many high profile drug cases; the Supreme Court in many high profile Murder trials; the Court of Appeal; and at the Privy Council in London, during his legal career at the Office of the Attorney General.
