Nassau, New Providence - It was a rare opportunity
when guests of The Bahamas Historical Society could enjoy Thursday night’s
A Governor General’s View from Mount
Fitzwilliam presenting four former Governors General of the Commonwealth of
The Bahamas in Panel Discussion.
It was November’s “Free Talk”
session, and part of the celebration of the 55th year of The Bahamas
Historical Society that offered a first-time-chance to hear the views of Their
Excellencies: Sir Orville Turnquest, Dame Ivy Dumont, the Hon. Arthur D. Hanna,
and Sir Arthur Foulkes.
The former Governors General
spoke of their individual experiences – their insights into their
responsibilities and duties to The Crown and to The Bahamas, and of the
authority vested in that Office.
The Bahamas Historical Society
holds monthly ‘free talks,’ publishes an annual journal, and encourages
membership. It is a non-profit cultural and
educational organization dedicated to stimulating interest in Bahamian history
of which it is the custodian of 500 years of data and artifacts.
