Bahamas Delegation Attends UN Session on Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The Bahamas Delegation to the '12th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities,' June 11-13, 2019 at UN Headquarters' returned to New Providence from New York after three days of meetings, workshops and instruction on Assistive Technology, Information Communication Technology, Social Inclusion and the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.  The Bahamas' delegation was headed by Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development, Michael Foulkes; Assistant Director of Disability Affairs Gillian Bethel; Chairman of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Lester Ferguson; Gender-Based Violence Coordinator Simone Bridgewater; and Technical Officer and President of the Alliance for the Blind Kendrick Rolle. The delegation was ably assisted by Bahamas Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ms. Sheila Carey and the Embassy Staff.  The Bahamas signed onto the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in September 2013 and ratified the same in 2015.   Parliamentary Secretary Michael Foulkes is pictured during address of the UN Session; and the Bahamas Delegation in second photo.   (Photos/Courtesy, Ministry of Social Services)
