Nassau, The Bahamas -- Cultivating the climate to produce a sustainable market for small, medium, and micro businesses, is the Bahamas Government’s response to stimulating the local economy.
A business workshop was held Oct. 5 at the Cleveland Eneas Primary School for Pinewood constituents to attend and receive advice to enhance their businesses. Mark Turnquest said Pinewood is the first of many constituencies that will be participating in the benefits of business consultancy.
“I am a Small Business Consultant that has been advocating for a SME Act and SME Development Agency for the past 10 years. We (SME owners) are now very close to receiving national and international funding and the necessary business support systems that will make our businesses sustainable, viable and profitable well into the future,” said Mr. Turnquest, a consultant to the Ministry of Finance.
In addition, Mr. Turnquest said that as part of this process, the government, with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank and Compete Caribbean, has contracted EPS Consultants to conduct a Needs Assessment Survey to identify the major issues that the small, medium and micro business sector are confronted with on a daily basis.
“The Government of The Bahamas has hired me, along with six other consultants, to work along with EPS Company to survey the SME market to determine various needs, so that they can be immediately addressed in an effective and efficient manner,” said Mr. Turnquest.
Business owners in Pinewood and surrounding areas are invited to join Mr. Turnquest’s class at Cleveland Eneas School in Pinewood every Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. to get more information about what the government’s initiatives are to support local businesses.
