NASSAU, The Bahamas –  “The way we regard our Flag serves to demonstrate to the world how committed we are in maintaining the profound aims and objectives of The Bahamas as one united nation. So, wherever we are in our homes, our schools, our churches or in our communities we must always remember to show respect for ourselves,” Governor General Her Excellency Dame Marguerite Pindling said at National Pride Day & Flag Raising festivities in Rawson and Parliament Squares, July 6, 2018.  As Bahamians celebrated,  she admonished that they always show respect to this “sacred” symbol.

Bahamians, including children enrolled in summer camps, clad in the gold, aquamarine and black colors of the Flag, filled Parliament Square and beamed with pride as they clapped, danced, and waved their Flags in celebration.  Government officials, diplomatic community representatives and Bahamians of all walks of life joined in the festivities.

The colourful Flag Raising ceremony, led by the Governor-General, was among the activities organized by the 45th National Independence Committee to mark National Pride Day.  The theme this year: 'Celebrate Bahamas: We’ve Come This Far by Faith'.
