NASSAU, The Bahamas – Forty-seven Teachers of the Year
representing various school districts throughout The Bahamas were recognized
for their accomplishments during the 11th National Teacher of the
Year 2015-2017 Pinning Ceremony, Thursday, March 26.
Senior government officials, family, friends, colleagues,
well-wishers attended the ceremony conducted in the ballroom of Mount
Fitzwilliam, Government House and witnessed as Dame Marguerite Pindling,
Governor-General, presented medals and certificates to the Teachers of the
Year.
Lionel Sands, Director of Education, in his welcome remarks
told the Teachers of the Year that they have chosen a career that calls for a
life of service to God, man and country.
He said, “The former three are quite interwoven, for you
cannot give service to God without it benefitting your fellowman and your
country.
“The pins you receive this morning depict the lamp of
knowledge. I trust that you will receive them, and view them as a reminder to
impart knowledge that will guide your students into a brilliant future, lit
with hope and preparedness,” he added.
Other highlights of the ceremony included an inspirational
reading by Nadia McDermott of Fox Town Primary School and musical tributes by
Devaro Chase and Lorenz Burrows of C. V. Bethel Senior High School.
