CASTRIES, Saint Lucia – Chief Operating Officer of the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit, Mrs. Viana Gardiner, met with members of the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit in St. Lucia on Tuesday, 2 July as part of a learning exchange between the two Units.

Discussions focused on safety and security, and education, which are among the key priorities shared by both Units. The Units also shared information on shared strategies to implement effective performance management.

“Increasingly, governments in the region are embracing evidence-based performance management to deliver meaningful results for its citizens,” said Mrs. Gardiner. “The Bahamas is pleased to collaborate with St. Lucia, particularly as some of our priority areas are similar.”

The Bahamas PMDU was established in May 2018 and has identified eight key priority areas that align with the Government’s plan to build a modern Bahamas and improve how the Government works.

It uses a target-specific, results-oriented performance management methodology in the public sector that relies heavily on data to facilitate evidence-based decision making in the areas of education, safety and security, Over-the-Hill rejuvenation, land reform, ease of doing business, energy reform, infrastructure and public sector modernization and digitization.

PMDU Bahamas has already seen its stakeholders receive tangible results in some of the identified key priority areas including making progress on their targets in education as it relates to universal preschool, safety and security, processes to facilitate ease of doing business, and Over-the-Hill rejuvenation, said Mrs. Gardiner.

During Tuesday’s exchange, Mrs. Gardiner also presented The Bahamas PMDU’s Annual Report to Deputy Head of the St. Lucia PMDU, Mrs. Charon Gardner-Hippolyte.

Mrs. Gardiner is part of the official Bahamas delegation attending the 40th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), led by Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis.
