Bahamian Culture closed IDB Meetings in Grand Style

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Bahamian culture at its best was on full display during the Closing Reception of the 57th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank and the 31st Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Investment Corporation.

The Atlantis Grand Ballroom on Paradise Island came alive, as act after act showcased some of the best in Bahamian talent to thousands of delegates at the close of the historic IDB-IIC Meetings held April 7 to 10, 2016 at the Baha Mar Convention Centre.

The Tingum Dem Band took its musical lineup down memory lane and treated the delegates to international and local classic. The entertainment for the evening also featured the Mitzie Chipman's Dance Troupe, limbo dancing, Raphael Munnings and his son Raphael Munnings ll, who performed the classic “Funky Nassau”, and a spectacular rush-out by the Genesis Junkanoo Group, closing out the night.

Other Bahamian entertainers who performed at various functions were: Son Del Solar (Falcon Watson), DJ Jo Alimoe (Joseph Sakr), Junkanoo Band, The Royal Bahamas Police Force Pop Band, DJ Gary "Super" Johnson, Ricardo Williams, Scorch Conch

The Bahamas National Youth Choir, Lee Callender, The Falcons Classical String Quartet, Ambasah Band, David Rolle Designs, Signature Sound Band, and The Firm Band.

The annual joint Meeting provides a forum for discussion among the institution's Governors, including finance ministers and central bank presidents, and representatives of multilateral financial institutions, development agencies and private banks.

At the Inaugural Session, the Hon Michael Halkitis, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance was elected, by acclamation, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Inter-American Investment Corporation.

This is the first time the IDB is meeting in the Caribbean region, since it last meet in Jamaica in 1979. The 2017 Meeting will be held in the Republic of Paraguay.
