Nassau, The Bahamas - Following extensive efforts at contact with the four Bahamians known to be living in the Caribbean island of Dominica, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the individuals in question are safe, following the passage of Hurricane Maria, which caused significant damage on that island.

The Bahamians, three students and a businesswoman, were confirmed safe by Ministry officials through constant contact with family and friends since traditional communications were down and there is no official Mission of The Bahamas Government in Dominica.

The Ministry received word of the individuals’ safety some days ago, shortly after the passage of the hurricane.  The Ministry understands that all Bahamians who wished to leave Dominica have now successfully departed.
