Bahamians using renewable energy systems reminded to register
May 12, 2015 - 12:50:34 PM
Nassau, Bahamas - The following is a statement from the Minister of the Environment and Housing, Hon. Kenred Dorsett:
I remind the general public that the registration process
for all persons and businesses generating energy through renewable energy
sources begins Monday, May 11th, 2015.
Registration is expected for all renewable
energy systems across the country whether or not the owner is interested in the
grid tie in programme. The information
gathered from this process will assist the Government in ascertaining the level
of the deployment of alternative energy in the country.
It will also assist the International
Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) with their rapid assessment of The Bahamas for
the SIDS Lighthouse Initiative . The
IRENA SIDS Lighthouse initiative aims “to mobilize funding and political will
to advance renewable energy deployment in island settings around the
world.”Registration also serves as the first step for persons and businesses
wishing to be apart of the Residential Energy Self Generating or Grid Tie In
Programme.
Forms are being made available on the Bahamas Electricity
Corporation's website at www.bahamaselectricity.com. Family Island residents can obtain a form
from their local BEC offices or the offices of their island administrator. Here in New Providence, forms are available
at BEC head offices on Tucker Road and the Technical Planning Building also on
Tucker Road. Please ensure that forms
are filled out correctly and returned to the office from which they were
obtained.
I thank all renewable energy users in advance for their
cooperation in this exercise.
