Nassau, The Bahamas - The 22nd annual Bahamas Business Outlook (BBO) seminar was held Thursday, January 10, at the Wyndham Nassau Resort under the theme “Building on the spirit of Independence: New Blueprints for Social and Economic Development.”

Mr. Marcellus Taylor, Deputy Director of Education for Planning and Development in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology who spoke on the topic “The interrelations between Education and Society in The Bahamas,” said bringing community, education, migration and tourism together is the best way to achieve a positive goal.

“The numbers of persons must be watched to determine the success of the overall effort. It does not matter where they come from once they are here legally you must watch the numbers to achieve the main goal,” Mr. Taylor said.

The BBO brings together experts and concerned persons from every economic sector to discuss national issues. “We count it a great success that they have advanced many excellent ideas that have stimulated the national conversation and helped to move us forward,” said Joan Albury, president TCL group, in the president’s message.

The president’s message read under this year’s theme we intend to create an even greater impetus to forward movement in 2013. The topics and outstanding cast of speakers we have assembled demonstrate our understanding that social development and economic development are conjoined twins that can only be separated to the great detriment of one of them or both.

Other speakers included Prime Minister and Minister of Finance the Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie who spoke on “Building on the spirit of Independence: New Blueprints for Social and Economic Development; Geoff Houston CEO, BTC who spoke on “Building a world class network,” Sharlyn Smith, Attorney-at-Law, Sharon Wilson and Co. who spoke on Securing Rights, Title and Interests in Land: The Need, The Way Forward; and Aliya Allen, CEO and Executive Director, Bahamas Financial Services Board who spoke on the topic “The Growth of Global Competitiveness.”
